Tracktopus is a free, personal hobby project. It does not collect, store, or sell any personal data. The only information that ever leaves your device is your postcode — sent directly to the Octopus Energy API for the sole purpose of determining your grid region.
This policy explains in plain terms what data is used, where it goes, and who can see it.
stored locally When you enter your postcode, it is saved in your browser's localStorage — on your device only. It is never sent to Tracktopus or any server we operate.
octopus api Your postcode is sent to the Octopus Energy API at api.octopus.energy for two purposes only:
1. To look up your grid supply point (electricity region)
2. To fetch the Agile Octopus half-hourly prices for that region
It is not used for any other purpose. Please refer to Octopus Energy's privacy policy for details of how they handle API requests.
To remove your postcode at any time, clear your browser's site data for tracktopus.energy.
infrastructure Tracktopus is hosted on Netlify. As with any web host, Netlify's servers automatically log standard request data when your browser loads the site — this includes your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested.
This data is held by Netlify and used for infrastructure and security purposes. Tracktopus has no access to these logs. Please see Netlify's privacy policy for full details.
anonymous analytics Tracktopus uses Umami for privacy-friendly, anonymous analytics. Umami is designed to be GDPR-compliant by default.
Umami does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, and does not collect any personally identifiable information. The data collected is limited to:
· Page views and referring URLs
· General device type (desktop / mobile)
· Country-level location (derived from IP, not stored)
· Browser type
No data is shared with third parties. Analytics are used solely to understand how many people find Tracktopus useful. See Umami's privacy policy for more.
none Tracktopus does not use cookies. Your postcode and theme preference are stored in localStorage, which is local to your browser and not transmitted to any server.
Tracktopus contains a referral link to Octopus Energy. If you click it and sign up, we may both receive a bill credit as part of their referral scheme. Octopus Energy's own privacy policy applies to any data you provide to them.
